Dominic was born to a locksmith, Jason, and his wife, the daughter of a carpenter. Dominic would soon enough be the only son in his family, due to complications from his birth that nearly killed his mother. His mother had been ill since her slow recovery from Dominic's birth, and got sick remarkably easily.

Dominic grew up learning his father's trade. How to build a lock, how to take one apart, how to pick it with a wire. Though he found the work remarkably boring, he carried on with it, because he was expected to. He was his father's only son. He had no choice.

Until he met Jessica.

Jessica was a beautiful girl, the daughter of the innkeeper, long hair, bright eyes, beautiful. He made advances on her only to have the innkeep turn him away, a frown on his lips and a furrow in his brown. But Dominic was nothing if not persistant, and he kept up his advances.

And then, one day, in a fit of either foolishness or shortsightedness, Jessica proposed that they elope, and so they did. Dominic left his father without a son, left his sickly mother, left his locksmithing, and left his hometown, running as far away as he could with Jessica. They forgot about their families -- or tried to -- and they forgot about their former lives -- or tried to -- and forgot about everything but each other -- or tried to, at the least. Dominic had learned enough to make them a living where they ended up, and they struggled, but survived, and soon enough, started to earn a bit extra.

They lived together for more than a year before the testers came to the door. Dominic tried to explain the situation, but it was of little difference to the testers, who just cited that Dominic had come of age and needed to have his magic tested. The tests went on, and Dominic was told to report to Everthorne Academy to train his magic.

He left Jessica, who was verging six months in her pregnancy, and went to Everthorne promising to make a life for her. Even if he would rather just stay home.

Dominic failed out of Everthorne without knowing for sure what he'd passed or how badly he'd failed. He went home without a single mark to show for his efforts. He at first sank into a fit of depression, thinking of all the things he could have given his family if he had become a mage, and how he'd failed at attaining any of them. Jessica reassured him, but Dominic brushed off her help, spiraling into an angry working habit that did little to improve his attitude.

Then, Jessica gave birth to their first child, a beautiful dark-haired girl that the two of them named Meryl. Meryl was healthy and happy and perfect, and Dominic, for the first time since failing Everthorne, didn't regret anything.

He took on a fresh resolve for his life, working harder and better, and in turn making more money. Life slowly grew more comfortable, and he smiled like he used to before he'd gone to the academy. Gold came easier, and while it was certainly nothing compared to some other crafters he knew, it made life easier. From time to time he brought home pretty things for Jessica or small toys for Meryl. He was taken on by one of the best smiths in town, and for the first time in a long while, things seemed like they would work out. Dominic was happy with his own life at long last.

Dominic is reckless and brash, and almost always jumps into a situation without first thinking it through. From his eloping with Jessica to how much he eats at night, he rarely thinks about what he does before he does it. He's even convinced Jessica's pregnancy is one big mistake caused through a series of unfortunate coincidences, though it was mostly his own doing. When he does fuck up terribly, he'll blame someone else, God, fate, bad luck -- whichever happens to be the most convenient at the time.

He has incredible trouble keeping his feelings out of things, and is rather loud about it, too. If something pisses him off, he says so. If something makes him upset, he'll say so -- though he'll likely be more mad than sad about that, too. He learned his extensive vocabulary of cuss words from his father and his father's customers, and uses them frequently, a habit which Jessica despises.

He's spectacularly lazy when he doesn't want to work, and tends to daydream a lot. On the other hand, when he does want to work, he works hard and almost to the point of exhaustion.

He tends to get in arguments a lot from his tendency to be reckless and emotional, and this goes for everyone -- including Jessica. He also dislikes authority terribly, and despises having to do things that he hates or is bad at. He's gotten in trouble for arguing with authority figures before, and isn't likely to stop anytime soon. This is very likely to get him in big trouble sometime in the immediate future.

Dominic is tall and lanky, with short-cut blond hair and big blue eyes. He usually keeps his hair in a headband to keep it out of his eyes. He tends to slouch when he stands, and when he's not slouching, he's swaggering. He's most often smiling, or smirking, because he finds the world such a tremendous joke. People usually estimate him as being arrogant and disrespectful, which is perfectly all right, because that's just what he is.
